Many patients with many circumstances could be helped with a compounded medication, but these are some of the most common patient concerns:
If you have any other questions about Compounded Medications and how they might help you, please visit the "Contact Westchase" page.
1. Do you feel like your medication doesn’t quite “fit” you? Examples: “My prescriber says the medication I am taking is working, but I wonder if it could help me more .” side effects.”
Suggested solution from your Compounding Pharmacist: Manufactured medications are designed to treat the masses, not You. You may be able to work with your prescriber and your compounding pharmacist to develop a customized medication with the exact dose that helps you best without causing side effects.
2. Have you ever had a difficult time giving a medication to a child? Example: “My child needs a daily medication, but giving it is a daily battle!”
Suggested solution from your Compounding Pharmacist: Medication can be formulated to appeal to your child’s favorite flavors, and unique dosage forms like lozenges, lollipops, and popsicles are innovative alternatives that inspire children to take their medicine.
3. Do you struggle to give a medication to a pet? Example: “My veterinarian tells me I have to give this medicine to my pet, but I hate trying to try to force the tablet down the throat” Suggested solution from your Compounding Pharmacist: Few manufactured medications meet the needs of veterinary patients. No one knows your pet better than you do, so working with your veterinarian and your compounding pharmacist can result in a customized medicine that makes life easier for both you and your pet.
4. Have you ever had a hard time remembering to take your medications, or wished there was an easier way to take them? Example: “I take 3 different capsules every morning, 2 more with lunch, and 4 more when I go to bed at night.” Suggested solution from your Compounding Pharmacist: Your medications may be able to be combined into one dosage form, or compounded into a dosage form that is easier for you to take.
5. Have you ever avoided taking a medication because of an allergy or intolerance to an ingredient, such as a filler, dye, or fragrance? Example: “I’m allergic to lactose, which is a major ingredient in most manufactured medications.” Suggested solution from your Compounding Pharmacist: With a prescription from your prescriber, a medication can be compounded for you that will be compatible with any allergies or intolerances you may have.
